In broad daylight, the police nabbed three persons who camped out with jewellery worth over Rs 70 crore from a jewellery shop near Mission Chowk in Mandar, Ranchi on February 11. The looted ornaments were recovered from their possession.
A police official said that of the three arrested, two are residents of Argora Police Station, while one is a resident of Kanke Police Station. SP (Rural) Naushad Alam confirmed the breakthrough, but said that details on the matter would be given at a press conference expected in the evening.
Three armed miscreants hit Shanker and Son Jewellers, about 30 km from capital Jharkhand, and made off with ornaments worth over Rs 70 crore, besides Rs 40,000 cash and three mobile phones worth Rs 1.10 crore.
CCTV footage collected from the store indicated it was a four-minute operation that began at 2.26pm. The CCTV footage showed two armed miscreants with their faces covered by helmets and masks asking shop owner Abhay Soni to hand over all the ornaments and cash at gunpoint, and Soni was seen following the dictate out of fear.
Shortly after the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) including Khalari Deputy Superintendent of Police Animesh Naithani, inter alia in charge of Mandar police station and a technical cell was activated to collect call transcripts and other necessary technical data to nab the culprit. Finally, the 10-day workout brought results.
